Making Sense / Making $.cents

Making Sense

From June 28 - July 22 the gallery presents Making Sense, an exhibition showcasing works by a selection of leading contemporary Canadian artists and craftspeople: Kai Chan, Chari Cohen, Brad Copping, Magdolene Dykstra, Marc Egan, Ryan Legassicke, Susan Low-Beer, Susan Rankin, Lois Schklar, Judith Tinkl. The artists in this exhibition are deeply engaged with materials and "making". Their materials are more than just the medium behind the work. They are central to the pleasures each artist derives from the making and in the viewers enjoyment and reading of the work. These artists works excite and explore the senses, the carnal and fleshly ones and those that stimulate consciousness and awareness.

Come out to our Strawberry Social, Making $.cents, on Thursday, July 14, 6-8 p.m.

In lieu of an opening reception for our current exhibition, “Making Sense”, the gallery is hosting a fundraising event on Thursday, July 14, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. This event, “Making $.cents”, is a summer social for friends of the Aird. Please come out, enjoy the exhibit and support the gallery. All funds raised will directly support our exhibition programme.

Over and above these expenses the gallery further subsidizes every exhibition by covering the cost of the exhibition installation, lighting, signage, insurance up to a maximum of $85,000, and electronic surveilance of the gallery by the Ontario Provincial Police.

ERNESTINE TAHEDL: PASSAGES

Ernestine Tahedl: PASSAGES, Works Inspired by my Travels is on view from January 11 to February 4, 2011. An opening reception will be held on Thursday, January 13, 6-8 pm.

Ernestine Tahedl is an internationally known artist and longtime resident of King City, Ontario. This latest large-size series of acrylic paintings by the artist is co-presented with TRIAS GALLERY, Toronto. The artist states, “I explore and try to find the balance between the realistic image and pictorial values in my paintings. The concept of multiple canvases and panels has always fascinated me. It leads me towards the medieval concept of religious paintings and their spirituality. Spirituality and serenity are integral to my work. Colour and light are additional factors that guide me. Colour to me is light.”
